Why this roof shingle color selector is different

It starts with the house

Every color is shown on a real roof in real light — not as a chip on a fan deck. Granule blends read completely differently at forty feet than they do in your hand, so we photograph each line on finished houses first, then render it on yours.

Head-to-head comparison

Warranty, wind rating, price and color overlap across brands and lines, side by side. You can see where two manufacturers are selling nearly the same color at different prices, and where a longer warranty is genuinely worth the upgrade.

Free, no email required

No signup, no gated results, no sales call. Upload one photo and preview colors in about four seconds, then share a permanent link with your household or your contractor — nothing here is held back for an email address.

Three steps from a phone photo to a roof color on your house.

The roof is the largest single surface on the house and the hardest to picture before it is installed. This removes the guesswork.

A new roof is priced by the square, not by the color. The color is free, everything around it is not.

Color is the decision people enjoy making. Cost is the one that decides whether the project happens at all — so here is the arithmetic before you fall for a shingle.

Asphalt architectural
$4.50 – $7.00 per sq ft installed

The default on most American homes. 25–30 year life.

Tear-off of old roof
+$1.00 – $2.00 per sq ft

Two existing layers costs more than one. Some codes require it.

Steep or complex pitch
+15 – 40% on labor

Anything over 6:12 needs staging. Valleys and dormers add cuts.

Designer / luxury line
+$2.00 – $4.00 per sq ft

Heavier shingle, deeper shadow line, longer warranty.

National ranges · your market will differ · always get three quotes

Most bad roof colors were chosen correctly, in the wrong conditions.

Nearly every regretted roof comes from one of three habits — and all three happen before anyone climbs a ladder.

01
Matching the trim instead of the siding

The trim is a few square feet; the siding is the whole wall. A roof that flatters the trim and fights the siding reads wrong from the street, which is the only place anyone sees it from.

02
Choosing in the shade

Granule blends shift hard between overcast and direct sun. A charcoal that looks blue-grey on a cloudy Tuesday can read almost black in July. Look at every candidate in the light your house actually gets.

03
Trusting the fan deck

A four-inch chip has no shadow line, no depth, no repetition. Architectural shingles are built from three or four granule colors that only resolve into the real color at forty feet.

Six things every roofer asks before quoting a new roof.

You will get better quotes, faster, if you walk into the conversation already knowing the answers.

Square footage and pitch

Measured off the roof itself, not the floor plan. Pitch changes both material and labor.

How many layers are up there

One layer can sometimes be covered. Two means a tear-off, and a dumpster.

Deck condition

Soft sheathing is found after the tear-off, so most quotes carry a per-sheet contingency.

Ventilation

Ridge vent, soffit intake, or neither. It governs whether the new warranty holds.

Exact line and color

Not "a dark grey" — the manufacturer, the line, and the SKU. This is the part you can settle here.

Who pulls the permit

Almost always the contractor, but confirm it in writing before work starts.

See your house with a new roof.

You have the cost, the pitfalls and the questions your roofer will ask. The only thing left is the part no chart can settle: what the color looks like on your house, in your light, at the distance people actually see it from.
