How many shingles are in a bundle?

It depends on the shingle. A bundle of standard three-tab shingles holds about 26 shingles; architectural (dimensional) shingles usually run about 21 per bundle because each shingle is larger and heavier. Always check the wrapper, since counts vary by brand and line.

What matters for ordering is coverage, not shingle count: three bundles of most shingles cover one square (100 square feet). Heavier designer shingles can take four or five bundles per square.

Estimate by roof area in squares, then add 10 to 15 percent for waste, starter, and hip and ridge caps.
