Choosing a shingle color is the same exercise as choosing a roof color, with one extra layer: shingle blends are multi-tonal, not flat. A shingle labeled "weathered wood" mixes browns, grays, and tans, so it can lean warm or cool depending on the light and the granule blend the manufacturer uses.

Because of that, compare the actual product swatch for the brand and line you are buying, not a generic color name. The same name looks different across GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and IKO.
